I am very excited about this year and look forward to teaching your students math and science. I will be teaching 5th through 8th math and science.
EXTRA HELP: I will be available for additional help for both math and science before school typically by 7:30 or after school until typically 3:30. I will also be available during the study halls I monitor for extra help. If your student needs to make arrangements beyond these times and class for additional help please have them speak with me. I will do all I can to help the students reach their academic goals.
MATH: This year all math classes will be 40 minutes long! The classes will only have one grade level during each period. There will be as much time as possible given to work on homework, but expect your student to have at least some math homework virtually every night. Their effective use of time during class and study halls will greatly impact the amount of homework they will have to bring home.
SCIENCE: Along with science content I will continue this year to teach students how to study science. I believe this is a vital skill to have and one that will benefit them beyond their current science class. We will use a variety of study aids and practice skills to help students attempt to identify their best way to study. I will work with them to hone their skills and give them pointers on improving their study skills.
WAYS TO IMPROVE GRADES:
1. Stay current on reading and assignments. DO NOT GET BEHIND!
2. Ask questions timely (do not wait until the day of the review or the test to state that you do not understand the material).
3. Begin studying early! (do not attempt to learn an entire chapter the night before a quiz or test).
4. Study often and vary the ways that you study.
OPPORTUNITIES TO EARN POINTS TO IMPROVE GRADES::
1. Do the homework corrections in math class..
2. Turn in extra credit from silent reading (see letter sent home).
3. Make corrections to tests following teacher instructions.
